PearPC.net package

About APE

The PearPC.net package has been created to offer everyone an easy way to use Mac OS X and other PPC operating systems on PearPC.

The main part of this package is APE - Alternative PearPC Environment. APE is a completely new PearPC configuration GUI. It is written in Java so it runs on many operating systems, like Windows, GNU/Linux, FreeBSD and more. The source code of the program is being released under the GPL, so that the community can add new features at any time. The idea of APE had been initially started by Don Kelley and was programmed by Alex Smith, Andreas Braun and Guru3.

This package includes the latest PearPC binaries by Prasys for Windows (Win32) and GNU/Linux. The builds include the following patches: Improved Cuda Patch + Improved Right Mouse Support + New AltiVec Code (CPU_PVR) Support ,AltiVec (G4) + + Scroll Whell Support + Auto Redraw Function + ISO CD Fix by guru3 + 2nd IDE Controller + Remote Desktop fixes + Tiger compatible + New “Panic Message” + Spare Disk Image support + CRC32 (Networking) fix

If you are interested in helping us improving APE or the PearPC.net package in general, then please do. You can find out how to contact us at the bottom of this document.

Requirements

You'll need the following things to use this package:

PearPC guide

To set up a working PearPC environment, you have to do the following things:

1. Create CD/DVD image

Now we have to create the CD/DVD image. Using this image you can later install the OS in PearPC. It is recommended to place the CD image in the PearPC directory.

UNIX/Linux
On Unix (-like) operating systems you can create a CD/DVD image very easily. Just enter this command: dd if=/dev/cdrom of=cd.iso

You can also set your CD-ROM device (i.e. "/dev/cdrom") as your image file and select "CD image". This will enable reading from the CD/DVD directly.

Windows
On Windows you can use image programs like ISOBuster, WinImage, Ahead Nero or Alcohol 120% to get a proper image of your install CD/DVD.

You can also select "Native CD" as image type. The either enter your drive letter, e.g. "d:\" or SCSI host adapter, target, LUN e.g. "2,0,1". This will enable reading from the CD directly.

2. Create HD image

You can create an HD image using APE. To start APE you can either start APE.jar directly, or if that fails, you can run the script files named "Start APE on ..." for your operating system.

After starting APE, switch to the "Image files" panel and enter your prefered image files size. The click on "Create HD image" to save an empty image file for PearPC.

3. Configure PearPC using APE

Configuring the PearPC config file using APE is very easy. You can start APE like this:

Windows
Just double click file "APE.jar" or start "Start APE on Windows.bat".

UNIX/Linux
You can start APE using the shell script "Start APE on UNIX.sh".

When you have started APE, you can set your preferred emulation settings. Then you can save your configuration file and start PearPC. At the next start of APE you can click "Load" to load your settings again.

For more information about configuring PearPC and installing Mac OS X, please visit our Wiki pages.

4. Start PearPC

Press the "Start PearPC" button on the bottom of the window. APE will run PearPC and tells it to use the configuration file you have saved before.
