·  Was sind ROMs?
·  Hi Leute! Woher zur Hölle bekommt ihr denn eure ROMs? Ich les hier jede Menge über Emulatoren, aber nirgends wie man legal an ROMs kommt. Macht ihr die euch irgendwie selbst mit einem Lesegerät zuhause? Ich mein, ich hab hier einige SNES Spiele liegen, die ich einfach mal wieder spielen will. Darf man sich dann das ROM aus den Internet ziehen, wenn ja, wo?

·  Was sind ROMs?

Spiele für Konsolen existieren meistens in Form von Modulen. Auf diesen Modulen befinden sich die Spielinformationen auf Speicherbausteinen in Form von PROMS (Programmable Read Only Memory).

Der Inhalt dieser Module kann mit einem Kopierer ausgelesen und gespeichert werden.

Diese Kopien nennt man dann ROMs.

Woher zur Hölle bekommt ihr denn eure ROMs? Ich les hier jede Menge über Emulatoren, aber nirgends wie man legal an ROMs kommt. Macht ihr die euch irgendwie selbst mit einem Lesegerät zuhause? Ich mein, ich hab hier einige SNES Spiele liegen, die ich einfach mal wieder spielen will. Darf man sich dann das ROM aus den Internet ziehen, wenn ja, wo?

ROMs sind Abbilder eines Spielmoduls. Zum Erstellen eines ROM-Abbilds benötigt man spezielle ROM-Dumper. Wer diese Dinger benutzt befindet sich aber in einer rechtlichen Grauzone. Rein rechtlich hat man ja eigentlich das Recht auf eine private Sicherheitskopie, allerdings darf man dafür keinen Kopierschutz umgehen. In diesem Falle ist das Modul selbst der Kopierschutz. Und selbst wenn man eine Kopie gemacht hat ist es nicht 100% legal diese in einem Emulator zu spielen.

Als Alternative kann man ja auch auf voll legale Public Domain ROMs zurückgreifen, diese gibt es z.B. hier: www.pdroms.de.

: [a] This is simply an alternate version of a  :\
:     ROM. Many games have been re-released to  :\
:     fix bugs or even to eliminate Game Genie  :\
:     codes (Yes, Nintendo hates that device).  :\

: [b] A bad dump often occurs with an older     :\
:     game or a faulty dumper (bad connection). :\
:     Another common source of [b] ROMs is a    :\
:     corrupted upload to a release FTP.        :\

: [f] A fixed game has been altered in some way :\
:     so that it will run better on a copier    :\
:     or emulator.                              :\

: [h] Something in this ROM is not quite as it  :\
